Overview

• The Victoria Regional Rapid Transit Project (VRRTP) is developing transit options that are safe, convenient, reliable and green
  
• Key corridors and transit options are being considered within a regional network context
• Transit options considered have included commuter rail, tram, light rail, RapidBus, seabus, etc.
  
• A community liaison committee representing various organizations and interest groups meets regularly
  
• A rapid link between Victoria and the growing West Shore is a priority
• The VRRTP upholds the Provincial Transit Plan vision to support growing urban centres and increase ridership in the Victoria region by providing attractive alternatives to single car commuting
  
• The VRRTP supports the goal of the provincial Climate Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2020
  
• The project is a partnership between BC Transit, the Capital Regional District, and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure

Current activity

• Developing detailed rapid transit options within the alignment approved last fall by the BC Transit Board of Directors
  
• Stakeholder & public consultation ongoing
  

Next Steps

• Following the development of various design options, including technologies, on preferred alignment, develop Business Case for approval and implementation
  
• Continued consultation with key stakeholders and public
