Fares

You may pay with cash (exact coin fare only, drivers carry no change), Multi-Ride Card, Ticket, DayPass, monthly bus pass or one of the other types of pass available in your community, including BC Bus Pass where available.

Boarding the Bus

You may board only at designated stops, via the front door of the bus. Have your fare ready when you board the bus, or display your entire Pass to the driver.

Appropriate Attire

  • For safety reasons, drivers will refuse service to passengers not wearing shirts and footwear.
  • The bus is a great way to get to and from the beach, lake or pool, but please make sure your clothes are dry when boarding.

Priority Seating

BC Transit extends a special thank you to our customers who give up their seats for people with disabilities or mobility challenges. The accessible area of the bus is prioritized to meet the needs of all transit customers.

The seating priorities are:

  1. Customers who use wheelchairs, scooters, pediatric strollers or other mobility aids
  2. The elderly, and customers with a disability or mobility issue
  3. Customers with baby strollers

Strollers on Board

The parent or guardian is required to hold onto the stroller during the trip. Strollers must be kept clear of the aisles. The aisle is considered to be the width of the distance between the normal seats, not the width of the accessible area.

Strollers should be collapsible. When wheelchair positions are occupied or required by another customer, the customer should be able to fold the stroller, move to another seat and store the stroller between the seats. When space is available, the child can remain in the stroller. Position the stroller in an unoccupied wheelchair location. The stroller's brakes should be set, but the restraining straps are not required.

Safety on the Bus

Please remain seated or hold onto one of the stanchions when the bus is in motion. Do not put your arms or elbows out of the window. Do not bring combustible materials such as wet-cell batteries and gasoline containers onto the bus. To request a stop, pull the bell cord in time for your driver to be able to stop safely.

Getting off the Bus

Exit by the rear door when possible. After leaving the bus, wait until the bus pulls away and you have a clear view of any oncoming traffic before you cross the street. To get off the bus in rural areas with no designated bus stops, ask the driver to find a safe place to stop.

Passenger Responsibility

When your bus is approaching your stop, make sure you are in clear view of the driver and use the "transit wave" to alert the driver that you are waiting for that bus. If the bus coming is not your bus, take a step back to signal to driver that you are not waiting for that bus.

Have your fare ready when you get on the bus or display your entire monthly or DayPass to the driver. If you are eligible for discount fare, please display your ID.

If you are using a Walkman or other portable music player, please ensure you are not disturbing other passengers by keeping the volume down.

When darkness approaches, it becomes difficult for drivers to see people at bus stops, especially along unlit roads. Please take safety precautions by wearing light-coloured clothing, or clothing with reflective material.

Lost and Found

If you lose something on the bus, call Lost and Found at 250-265-3674. If you find something on the bus, give it to the driver, who will deliver it to Lost and Found.

The Nelson Transit System staff will keep articles in Lost and Found for up to 14 days, then send the articles to a charitable organisation.

Lost and Found is located at the transit office at 80 Lakeside Drive in Nelson.
